SkySails manufactures ship based kite traction systems to reduce the fuel consumption of the main propulsion system. They have solved many of the problems of automated kite traction power (control of large airfoil, deployment / recovery, optimization, etc.) that will be needed for ground-based electricity production from a reel-in/reel-out system.
